Having done my cave training
in northern Florida, I came to the Riviera Maya in the Yucatan
Peninsula of Mexico to dive the incredible underwater cave formations
of this region. I am an instructor for UTD (Cave Diver and cave
specialties - Cave DPV, Stage, Advanced Sidemount) and NSS-CDS (Full Cave) and, when not guiding certified
cave divers or teaching, I dive for fun in the cave systems of the
Riviera Maya.
I decided to pursue my
instructor rating with the NSS-CDS, which required a two year period of
internship assisting other instructors so as to gain experience. I was mentored by some of the best cave
instructors and explorers of the Riviera Maya and Florida. I then studied and trained to become a UTD instructor,
again no easy shortcuts!
There are certainly easier and faster ways of
becoming a cave instructor, but I wanted to be fully prepared for the
demands of teaching cave diving at the highest levels.
